Liverpool have entered the race to sign Matheus Nunes, with Chelsea and Manchester City also tracking the midfielder’s situation.

According to Rudy Galetti, an intense transfer battle could be on the cards as several big clubs from the Premier League are vying for Matheus Nunes’s signature. Liverpool have entered the chase for the Portuguese international, with Chelsea and Manchester City also interested.

Matheus Nunes has been primed for a move to the Premier League this summer, as Manchester City made their interest clear before the season ended. Pep Guardiola was reportedly left impressed by the 23-year-old midfielder’s performance against his side during last season’s UEFA Champions League campaign.

Nunes was heavily linked with Manchester City, who have instead preferred to sign Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United. The English international’s arrival could probably rule out a move for Nunes, but Rudy Galetti has claimed that the Premier League champions remain in the race.

However, Manchester City face stiff competition from Chelsea and Liverpool, as the Premier League duo get ready to wage a battle for the midfielder’s signature. Nunes has been a pivotal figure for Sporting CP, and his displays from a central zone were enough to impress many suitors.

Liverpool have been quiet this summer after signing Darwin Nunez in a huge deal from Benfica. They have since been focused on offloading several of their fringe stars. However, if the opportunity to sign a quality player like Nunes opens up, Jurgen Klopp will likely be ready.

And as per Galetti, Liverpool have joined the battle for Nunes as Klopp wants to bring in a new midfielder. Liverpool have recently been linked with Adrien Rabiot, but Klopp would be interested in someone like Nunes, who is younger and maybe a better alternative to the Frenchman.

While there are no official bids for Nunes yet, Liverpool might be waiting for competitors to make their first move to understand the player’s current value. Unlike other chases, the Reds face tough competition from Chelsea and possibly Manchester City.

Chelsea are earmarked to bring in a new midfielder this summer. After making several high-profile approaches for big-name stars, the Blues are yet to make their first signing. Raheem Sterling will likely be the first one to arrive at Stamford Bridge in this window, as many others could soon follow the England international.

Chelsea have approached Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong and face competition from Manchester United. Nunes could be an alternative to the Dutchman. He could be a good option for Thomas Tuchel, and the Blues must understand the player’s valuation.

A transfer battle for the midfielder could be on the cards this summer, as Liverpool, Chelsea, and even Manchester City are likely to retain their interest in the Sporting star. For now, the Portuguese club could be waiting on offers, and one may soon arrive.
