The race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni just got more interesting, with Liverpool ahead of Real Madrid in pursuit of the 22-year-old French international.

According to reputed French journalist Julien Maynard, Aurelien Tchouameni could be getting closer to joining Liverpool instead of Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. Newly-crowned French champions Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the AS Monaco midfielder but are third in the pecking order of suitors.

Aurelien Tchouameni has gone from strength to strength since joining AS Monaco from Bordeaux in January 2020. The French international has become a pivotal figure for club and country in the past year, establishing himself as one of the best young midfielders in Europe.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 season, chipping in with five goals and two assists in 48 appearances across all competitions. And Tchouameni’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with some of the most high profile clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid and Liverpool, setting their sights on him.

Real Madrid could reportedly sell Casemiro in the summer transfer window, with recent reports claiming they are open to recouping around €50 million from his sale. Tchouameni has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, with the 22-year-old French international potentially being a long-term successor for Casemiro.

Recent reports have claimed that Real Madrid will prioritise signing Tchouameni in the summer transfer window. But Liverpool’s emergence in the race to sign the AS Monaco midfielder has complicated matters for the Spanish giants.

But the interest from Liverpool is surprising, considering Fabinho has been going strong for a long time. But with Jordan Henderson on the wrong side of 30, signing a player like Tchouameni will be a step in the right direction for Liverpool. And according to Julien Maynard, the Reds are ahead of Real Madrid in the race to sign the 22-year-old French international.

Tchouameni is also a target for Paris Saint-Germain. But Les Parisiens are well behind Liverpool and Real Madrid. It will be interesting to see if the Merengues can claw their way back in the pursuit of the 22-year-old or if the Merseyside giants pounce on their advantage by prising him away from AS Monaco.
