Manchester United open to selling Barcelona target Marcus Rashford

Manchester United could reportedly put Marcus Rashford on the transfer list in the summer, handing Barcelona a boost in his pursuit.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Barcelona’s chances of securing the services of Marcus Rashford in the summer transfer window have been boosted. Manchester United could be open to cashing in on the underperforming English forward ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Marcus Rashford joined the famed Manchester United academy as a seven-year-old in 2005 before rapidly rising through the ranks in their youth setup. The 24-year-old made his first-team debut for the Red Devils half a dozen years ago, as Louis van Gaal fast-tracked him into the squad amid an injury crisis.

Since then, Rashford has come leaps and bounds but has endured a horrific 2021/22 campaign, struggling to perform at optimum levels following his recovery from a shoulder injury. The English international has a paltry tally of five goals and two assists in 30 appearances. Rashford has also lost his spot as a regular in starting lineups, with his situation capturing the attention of Barcelona.

Barcelona will delve into the market for attacking reinforcements in the summer transfer window. While the Catalan giants are clamouring to secure Ousmane Dembele’s long-term future, they will need to bring in a versatile forward who could rotate with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang while also being an option out wide.

Rashford fits the bill perfectly for Barcelona and has thus emerged on their radar over a move in the summer transfer window. And Barcelona’s hopes of prising the 24-year-old away from Manchester United ahead of the 2022/23 season have been boosted by the Red Devils’ stance on selling him.

Manchester United will not stand in Rashford’s way if he desires to call it quits at Old Trafford. And with the player’s entourage already in contact with Barcelona, a possible transfer in the summer transfer window could be on the cards.

But Manchester United will demand a hefty transfer fee to part with Rashford, which could pose a stumbling block for Barcelona. It will be interesting to see if the two parties can negotiate a sum that will appease them both or if the Premier League heavyweights stand their ground over a pricey amount.
