AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing Jorginho, as they hope to take advantage of the situation at Chelsea to replace departing star Franck Kessie.

According to Calciomercato, AC Milan are plotting a move for Jorginho, with the Italian side hoping to take advantage of the current situation at Chelsea and prise the midfielder back to Serie A. The Rossoneri want the Italy international to replace Franck Kessie, who will join Barcelona in the summer.

AC Milan are set for a busy summer, with several key transfer activities being planned in the corridors at San Siro. Stefano Pioli would want a strong side before the start of next season, with the club aiming to challenge on multiple fronts. They are eyeing strikers ahead of the summer window, with the club expected to reinforce the attack in the off-season.

However, a new requirement has emerged in the wake of Franck Kessie sealing a move to Barcelona on a free transfer. Milan must successfully replace the Ivorian midfielder and bring in a player capable of filling his shoes. And the Rossoneri would like Chelsea star Jorginho to join them.

Jorginho has a contract with Chelsea until 2023, and amid the club’s ongoing problems, Milan are hoping to offer an escape route of sorts. The Premier League giants, on current sanctions, will not be able to extend contracts of their players and may also be unable to buy new ones.

Milan hope to capitalise on the situation and lure the Italian international away from Stamford Bridge in the summer. The move may be tricky considering domestic rivals Juventus are vying for Jorginho’s signature. The Turin outfit are emerging to be favourites for the Chelsea man, who certainly has a decision to make after the season.

Ideally, Chelsea would like to extend his stay beyond 2023, although they may have to wait for the sanctions to be relaxed or a change of ownership at the club. If there is no agreement over an extension at Stamford Bridge, the Blues could be forced to sell the midfielder to recoup some money in the next window.

Jorginho would be the ideal midfield replacement for Kessie at AC Milan, although Chelsea are expected to make all efforts to hold on to their midfield mainstay. However, it will be a blow for the Rossoneri if he joins rivals Juventus.
