Real Madrid fans and neutrals alike were in for a shocker on Thursday morning as Zinedine Zidane announced his resignation as the club’s manager

In a press conference held early on Thursday morning, Zinedine Zidane announced that he is stepping down as Real Madrid manager, just five days after he had guided the club to its third successive UEFA Champions League triumph.

The Frenchman said that Los Blancos needed a “different voice”, adding that the time was right to move on. Unsurprisingly, messages poured in for Zidane, mostly of fans expressing their shock over his decision to leave Real Madrid, rather abruptly, while his players paid tribute to their outgoing manager.

As the dust settled, fans poured in with their tributes, thanking Zidane for his illustrious period as their manager.
