Paolo Di Canio backs Antonio Conte to improve Manchester United if appointed

Paolo Di Canio has backed Antonio Conte to improve a ‘disorganized, ragtag bunch’ at Manchester United if he were to succeed Michael Carrick.

Manchester United are yet to finalise the future of Michael Carrick, as recent updates pointed to the Englishman staying at the club. Earlier stories stated Carrick could be given time until the international break, although that could be extended irrespective of what happens in the Aston Villa game later on Sunday.

Carrick will lose his job if results do not improve on the pitch, with Manchester United entering the Aston Villa game inside the bottom three. With a decision likely to be imminent if Carrick continues to lose ground in the league, there are indeed several options being considered in the background, including Antonio Conte.

Conte is currently out of a job following his departure from Napoli in the summer, and is reportedly ready to make a return to management. The links to Manchester United may not have come at a better time, especially as they could make do with a manager of the ilk of the disorganised, ragtag bunch.

Di Canio’s verdict on Conte to Manchester United

Former West Ham star Paolo Di Canio has had his say on whether Conte will be a good fit for Manchester United, as his comments in La Repubblica, via Sport Witness, insist Conte will be the best man possible for the job. Di Canio insists the 57-year-old former Chelsea manager is good enough to improve a ‘disorganized, ragtag bunch’, pointing towards the Manchester club.

Di Canio said, “Is Conte a good fit for Manchester United? Antonio would bring organisation to a club that currently operates in a purely ad-hoc, improvised manner. Right now, it’s still a disorganised, ragtag bunch.”

“The success against Roma helps us see the difference between the Premier League and Serie A. By simply applying a bit of spirit, they completely steamrolled Gasperini’s side. They’re a team that, back here, is devastating in terms of its tempo.”

Conte is certainly a leading contender for the Manchester United job if Carrick gets the sack, as there have been reports of talks with his camp. The 57-year-old former Chelsea manager certainly has a track record of bringing success to teams, given his stories with Napoli, Inter Milan and Chelsea in the past, alongside Juventus.

There are suggestions that Manchester United might be quick to reach an agreement with Conte if they were to chase the Italian, although nothing seems to be moving at the moment. The Red Devils have lacked a competitive edge over the years, and as Di Canio suggests, Conte might be a good bet to improve them.
