Antonio Conte is ready to return to management, with Manchester United being linked amid uncertainty over Michael Carrick’s position.
According to Football Insider, Antonio Conte is prepared to return to football management following an extended summer break. The 57-year-old former Chelsea manager remains linked with a potential move to Manchester United amid concerns over Michael Carrick’s position after a disastrous start to the season.
Antonio Conte has developed a reputation for bringing instant success wherever he manages, although there are downsides to his approach. The decorated, six-time Serie A-winning Italian manager does not tend to remain at one club for many years, which may make teams seeking a long-term project think twice before appointing the former Chelsea boss.
However, there are clubs looking for immediate success, such as Manchester United, who could be interested in exploring a move for Conte. The Italian recently left his role at Napoli following the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign, having helped them win the Serie A title during the 2024/25 season.
Now, after a prolonged summer break that may have allowed the tactician to think things through, he appears ready to return to management. There is no clarity over which club he would personally prefer to join, although media reports have also begun linking the 57-year-old manager with a return to Chelsea.
Will Manchester United pursue Antonio Conte?
Conte is firmly on Manchester United’s radar ahead of the coming period, as the club could eventually consider a managerial change. While earlier reports denied any contact with the former Chelsea manager, there are suggestions that he could be one of the favourites should the club part ways with under-fire manager Michael Carrick.
Carrick has endured a difficult start to the new season and, following the 1-1 draw with 10-man Tottenham, Manchester United have recorded their worst start to a season since 1986. While the club may stick with the English tactician in the short term, a run of poor results could eventually see them end the reign of their former midfielder.
Conte also has interest from major Serie A clubs, according to reports, although he could be tempted by the prospect of managing Manchester United if an opportunity arises. For now, he is ready to return to management, and should the Old Trafford job become available, he could be interested in replacing Carrick.
