Arsenal and Manchester City are continuing to monitor Lille wonderkid Ayyoub Bouaddi, but the French club have made it clear they are in no rush to part ways.
Ayyoub Bouaddi has emerged as one of the most sought-after talents in Europe following a breakthrough campaign with Lille and an impressive FIFA World Cup with Morocco. His mature displays on the international stage have only strengthened interest from several elite clubs, with Arsenal and Manchester City among those keeping a close watch on his situation.
However, Lille president Olivier Letang has issued a firm response to the growing speculation surrounding the teenager’s future. Speaking about Bouaddi’s development, Letang insisted that the midfielder is expected to remain at the Ligue 1 club for at least another season.
“Anything is still possible, but in my opinion, he should stay with us for another season. I’m convinced there’s a strong chance he’ll stay with us. And he would be very happy to do so.”
“Today, I didn’t have any discussions because I refused any talks with clubs that could afford the transfer fee during the World Cup. What I’m telling everyone is that there’s no rush. We’re very calm, just like Ayyoub,” Létang explained to L’Equipe.
“We’ll take stock depending on what happens in the coming weeks. And you’re right, we have to be prepared for all eventualities. If he were to leave, we have to be ready.”
The Gunners have regularly invested in emerging stars in recent years, and Bouaddi’s technical quality, composure in possession and tactical intelligence make him an attractive option. Manchester City, meanwhile, are also believed to admire the youngster. Enzo Maresca’s side have built a reputation for identifying elite young midfielders before they become established superstars, and Bouaddi appears to fit that profile perfectly.
Reports have suggested City view him as one of the brightest prospects in European football after his rapid rise at Lille and impressive performances for Morocco. Bouaddi has already accumulated considerable first-team experience despite his age. Having broken into Lille’s senior side as a teenager, he has featured regularly in Ligue 1 and European competition, displaying remarkable maturity for such a young player.
His performances during Morocco’s run at the World Cup further enhanced his reputation, with the midfielder showing he can compete against some of the world’s best players on the biggest stage.
Although Lille are determined to retain the youngster for now, transfer interest is unlikely to disappear. Arsenal and Manchester City both possess the financial resources to test the French club’s resolve if they decide to formalise their interest before the transfer window closes.
