Alvaro Morata scored a hat-trick inside the first 48 minutes of the match to lead Real Madrid back to the top of La Liga with a thrilling 4-2 at Leganes on Wednesday.

Zinedine Zidane made nine changes to the side that beat Alaves on Sunday, and the fringe players responded with aplomb as they ran out 4-2 winners over Leganes.

The visitors were off the block quickly as James Rodriguez broke the deadlock in the 15th minute before Morata scored a quick double inside five minutes to create a three-goal lead for Zidane’s side.

Leganes responded through close range finishes from Gabriel Pires and Luciano Neves in the next 15 minutes to peg things back at half-time. But Morata responded immediately after the break to round off a thrilling win for Real Madrid that took them back to the top of La Liga.
