Manchester United rule out Andoni Iraola move

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is no longer in contention to be the next Manchester United manager.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Manchester United have ruled out the possibility of having Andoni Iraola on their bench next season. With this, Michael Carrick is now on the verge of being confirmed as their next permanent manager.

While United continue to insist a decision hasn’t been made, Carrick looks set to get the job, and an official announcement could happen before the end of the season. Meanwhile, Iraola is now in talks with Chelsea as well as Crystal Palace, who are both looking for a new manager.

On the back of an impressive track record at Rayo Vallecano, Iraola was handed the Bournemouth job in the summer of 2023. Over the last three years, he has transformed the Cherries into a dynamic, high-pressing team. While he was slow off the blocks, he has implemented a very attacking brand of football, which has brought consistent improvement.

The Spanish manager has decided against renewing his contract at the club. He is ready and available for a bigger challenge, and for weeks, he has been linked with Manchester United. With Michael Carrick only an interim boss at this point, the Red Devils have been in talks with a number of candidates, and Iraola was quite high on their shortlist.

Manchester United were interested in Iraola

His style of football was considered an ideal fit for the club, and more importantly, the 43-year-old has already proven himself in the Premier League, something the new ownership has given a lot of emphasis to in every move they have made in the market.

While Iraola was among the leading candidates, the Spanish manager has now been ruled out. The Red Devils look set to appoint Carrick as the permanent boss after he has helped them secure Champions League football with 10 wins, three draws, and just two defeats in 15 league outings.

Iraola is now free to hold talks with Chelsea and Crystal Palace. The Blues are looking for a new boss after sacking Liam Rosenior last month, while the Eagles are in the market because Oliver Glasner will be leaving Selhurst Park at the end of the season.
