Chelsea deny any approach for Xavi Hernandez

Chelsea vs Leeds United: Preview and Prediction.

Chelsea haven’t made any approaches to appoint former Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez as their new manager.

Chelsea appointed Calum McFarlane as an interim boss until the end of the season following the sacking of Liam Rosenior. While McFarlane looks to steady the ship, the Blues are on the lookout for their new manager. They have been linked with quite a few top names in recent weeks.

Reports earlier suggested that the London club had approached former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez for the job. However, according to a report from TEAMtalk, Chelsea haven’t made any moves to bring the Spanish coach to Stamford Bridge.

They have insisted there hasn’t been any approach from their side. On top of that, Xavi hasn’t shown any active desire to take up a job in England as things stand.

Xavi has been without a job since leaving Barcelona in the summer of 2024. He has been linked with quite a few clubs over the last 12 months. It’s not his camp that has been pushing it; this has largely been driven by intermediaries.

While his spell at the Catalan club didn’t end in the best possible way, Xavi did do a great job at his former club as he led them to the La Liga title during one of the worst financial phases of the club.

After being out of action for a season, he now seems keen on making a return. Intermediaries have contacted a number of top clubs in England, and Chelsea are one of them.

Chelsea are not pushing to sign Xavi

The London club are on the lookout for an ideal manager for their project. After multiple managerial changes in the recent past, the Blues want to ensure they get the right man for the job.

Xavi could have been an interesting option for them, given how well he worked with youngsters at Barcelona. But it seems he is not going to take charge at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have no intentions of having him on their bench and haven’t made any moves to sign him.

While he would be open to taking up a job in the Premier League at some point, he is not actively pushing to move to England at this point, and there are no ongoing negotiations with any club.

Chelsea are in no rush to make an appointment. They have an extensive shortlist and are going through every possible option at their own pace. As many as 20 names have been discussed at the London club’s offices.
