Florentino Perez is reportedly ramping up the efforts to appoint 58-year-old former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as the next Real Madrid head coach.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Jurgen Klopp is the subject of interest of Real Madrid. The struggling La Liga giants are combing the managerial market for a new head coach, as Alvaro Arbeloa brings a frustrating 2025/26 season to an end. The latest update has revealed that Florentino Perez is intensifying efforts to take the former Liverpool manager to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Jurgen Klopp and his career so far
Jurgen Klopp has etched his legacy as one of the most legendary managers of his generation, despite not having won dozens of trophies. However, his impact at the club level goes beyond the numbers, as he ended droughts at each club he managed. He rose in prominence at FSV Mainz 05 before guiding Borussia Dortmund to three trophies, including successive Bundesliga titles.
However, Klopp’s stock skyrocketed during his spell with Liverpool, with the Merseyside outfit winning almost every “major trophy” under his guidance. The 58-year-old ended Liverpool’s long wait for the elusive Premier League title, with the Reds also winning the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup during his tenure.
However, the German tactician called time on his legendary stint with Liverpool 18 months ago, and he has been with the Red Bull Group as the Head of Global Soccer for over a year. However, widespread reports have linked Klopp with a return to management, with Real Madrid among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
La Liga adventure beckoning?
Jurgen Klopp has been on Real Madrid’s wishlist for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, as the Merengues are eager to appoint a head coach who can provide long-term stability at the Spanish club. While Alvaro Arbeloa has been hoping to retain his position at Real Madrid, his future beyond the 2025/26 season is uncertain after failing to win a trophy this season.
The Spanish giants are not mathematically out of the equation to win the 2025/26 La Liga season, but they have little to no chance of bridging the gap to Barcelona. So, it is time for Real Madrid to start afresh, and a manager with Klopp’s pedigree is just what they need to return to the top of Spanish and European football.
However, recent reports have suggested that a move to the German national team may be on the cards for Klopp. With Perez ready to accelerate the move, Real Madrid will hope they can turn the 58-year-old tactician’s head and bring him back to the managerial sphere for the first time since leaving Liverpool in 2024.
