Arda Guler will return to the Real Madrid starting lineup when they take on Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.
Real Madrid will be eager to return to winning ways and clinch a berth in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals when they lock horns with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the quarter-final second leg on Wednesday night. Alvaro Arbeloa has a new roster issue to worry about ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Aurelien Tchouameni is the latest absentee, as he will serve a suspension due to an accumulation of yellow cards. The French international accompanies Thibaut Courtois (hamstring) and Rodrygo Goes (knee) on the sidelines.
Apart from the trio, each first-team player is in the travelling squad to take on Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Arbeloa discussed who would deputise for Tchouameni as the holding midfielder in the midweek European fixture.
The Real Madrid head coach said, “We have many options and many players who can play where Tchouameni does. Camavinga, Thiago, Ceballos, Valverde…We have plenty of choices.”
“I already know the lineup I’ll field tomorrow, and I have a lot of confidence in it. Also, in the substitutes, because it’s going to be a long match, and the eleven who start won’t be the same ones who finish. I feel privileged with the squad I have.”
Meanwhile, during his press conference, Arbeloa spoke about the areas where his team would need improvements ahead of the second leg. The Real Madrid boss said, “We need to improve many aspects of our game.”
“It’s important to convert our chances; I don’t think we’ll have as many as we did in the first leg. But in these matches, if you’re able to score, it boosts your confidence. We have to score if we want to win and advance. We have to play very well tomorrow.”
Andriy Lunin will continue to deputise for Thibaut Courtois, with Real Madrid lining up in a 4-3-1-2 formation in front of him against Bayern Munich on Wednesday. The backline will feature Trent Alexander-Arnold, Antonio Rudiger, Dean Huijsen, and Alvaro Carreras, with Arbeloa changing the entire backline from the league game against Girona this past weekend.
As for the midfield unit, Eduardo Camavinga will start as the holding midfielder, with Federico Valverde and Jude Bellingham joining him in the middle of the park. Finally, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior will be the two central attackers for the away side, with Arda Guler reprising the no. 10 role.
