Manchester United hold talks with Mauricio Pochettino

Chelsea have failed with an improved offer to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Manchester United have reportedly held fresh talks with Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino as the Red Devils look to name a new manager.

According to a report from Foot Mercato, Manchester United and Mauricio Pochettino were involved in a fresh meeting as the Red Devils continue their search for a new manager.

Manchester United are on the lookout for a new permanent head coach who can take over the reins from Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season. The German tactician was brought in on an interim basis towards the end of last year after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was shown the doors following a poor run of results.

Things have not taken a turn for the better during Rangnick’s stint with Manchester United crashing out of all cup competitions and the UEFA Champions League, while they have fallen behind the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the top-four race.

Considering the gap between them and their arch-rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool, Manchester United must get their next managerial appointment absolutely right. Pochettino, to that end, has emerged as one of the targets for the 20-time English champions

Even though he did not win any silverware, the 50-year-old had solid stints in England with Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur. However, his time at Paris Saint-Germain has been a mixed bag as Pochettino failed to win the Ligue 1 title last season. And while his team look set to lift the league crown this term, their Champions League campaign has ended on a disastrous note.

The collapse against Real Madrid in the Round of 16 has left Pochettino on the brink, with PSG planning for changes from top to bottom in the summer. And it has opened the door for Manchester United to swoop in for the Argentine manager in the summer.

It is now claimed that Manchester United have held a meeting with the former Tottenham Hotspur manager to discuss the possibility of him taking over from Rangnick. However, Pochettino is not the only option on the club’s radars, with AFC Ajax boss Erik ten Hag also a contender. Reports have even claimed that the Dutchman is the favourite to land the job.

It remains to be seen which way Manchester United decide to go come summer. But a swift decision must be made so that the incoming manager can plan out for the summer transfer window.
