Barcelona in advanced talks with Gavi, Ronald Araujo over new deals

Gavi and Ronald Araujo are reportedly in advanced talks with Barcelona bumper new contracts, which will come with €1 billion release clauses.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Barcelona could soon tie a key duo down to bumper new contracts. Gavi and Ronald Araujo are in advanced talks with the Blaugrana over their respective renewals, which will come with €1 billion release clauses.

The last few years have been tumultuous for Barcelona, with sustained success evading them. Xavi Hernandez is their fourth manager in two years, with Ernesto Valverde, Quique Setien and Ronald Koeman getting the sack in this period. In such a difficult time, the emergence of several young players has been a major positive for Barcelona.

Gavi and Ronald Araujo are two such youngsters who have not only broken through at Barcelona but also become key components in the first-team squad. Gavi is only 17 years old but has already featured 31 times for Barcelona across all competitions this season, competing with Frenkie de Jong and Pedri for the creative midfield slots.

On the other hand, Araujo is the most reliable defender for Barcelona, making a bigger impact than the likes of Gerard Pique, Eric Garcia and Clement Lenglet. But the Catalan giants have been sweating over the long-term futures of their key duo, with several European bigwigs keen on signing him.

Interestingly, Gavi and Araujo have been linked with Premier League bigwigs like Chelsea and Manchester United. But widespread reports have also claimed that the two youngsters are keen on extending their respective spells with Barcelona, giving the Blaugrana a good base to build on in contract negotiations.

Gavi has reportedly been closer to penning a renewal with Barcelona than Araujo. Indeed, the Uruguayan international had recently knocked back a contract renewal offer from Barcelona while maintaining that he intends to stay put at Camp Nou. But things have also changed for Araujo, who is in advanced talks with the Catalan club over a renewal.

According to SPORT, Barcelona will likely reach an agreement with the key duo and officiate their renewals this month. And with that, the La Liga heavyweights will bump their release clauses to €1 billion, just as they did with Pedri when he signed his new contract earlier this season. The speculation surrounding the two players will soon end, as they are set to commit their long-term futures to Barcelona.
