Premier League heavyweights Liverpool and Chelsea will go up against each other in pursuit of Fulham prodigy Fabio Carvalho.

According to Eurosport, Premier League giants Liverpool and Chelsea are in the fray for the signing of talented 19-year-old Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho.

The youngster is steadily making a name for himself at Craven Cottage. Having joined Fulham in 2014, Carvalho rose through the ranks, eventually making his first-team debut in the year in 2020.

He has since made 13 appearances for the Cottagers, scoring four goals and assisting one more. A versatile player, the 19-year-old can perform in various positions in midfield and attack. This would be an added benefit for statically astute sides who utilize multi-talented players to full effect.

Both Chelsea and Liverpool have shown themselves open to giving youth a chance. The Blues already have a core of young players leading the charge under Thomas Tuchel and will sharpen their arsenal further by landing Carvalho.

Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic have had their moments but have failed to impress consistently. Whether Chelsea will be keen to keep them on or pull the plug if things don’t improve remains to be seen. Parting ways with either of them or both will open up a spot on the flank to be filled. In Carvalho, they will be landing themselves a player who is a good creator of opportunities and an astute finisher.

Liverpool, meanwhile, could do with a young attacker who can take over from their front three in the years to come. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are among the best wingers globally, but they cannot lead the line forever. A change of the guard is inevitable down the line, and landing Carvalho could sow the seeds for just that.

However, both the clubs will have to be wary of Real Madrid, who are also putting together an offer. Liverpool and Chelsea are both being kept in the loop, and it remains to be seen how they will respond.

Carvalho, for his part, appears open to a move to the Premier League with Southampton. He is impressed with how Tino Livramento has developed at St Mary’s and understands the career path regular playtime can offer.

The 19-year-old has shown that he has what it takes to compete at the highest level. Unfortunately, there is only so much he can achieve at Fulham. Where he decides to take his talents to the next remains to be seen.
