Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly among the clubs vying for Marco Asensio, who is valued at around €40 million by Real Madrid.

According to a report by Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in signing Marco Asensio in the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old forward is also being tailed by Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid, with Real Madrid demanding €40 million in exchange for his services.

Marco Asensio joined Real Madrid from RCD Mallorca in the summer of 2015 and was immediately sent out on loan to Espanyol. Following his return from the temporary stint away from the club in 2016, the Spaniard has not looked back and has been a regular in the first-team setup at Santiago Bernabeu.

To date, Asensio has turned out 193 times for Real Madrid while amassing a return of 37 goals and 22 assists. While he has often shown flashes of brilliance, the 25-year-old has also frustrated with his tendency to blow hot and cold, as was evident last term. Nevertheless, the Spanish forward has seemingly been impressive enough to attract the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.

Arsenal are in the market for a wide attacking addition this summer despite Gabriel Martinelli’s return to fitness. That is because Willian has been nothing short of abysmal since arriving from Chelsea last summer and could well be on his way out of the Emirates. Even Reiss Nelson is being touted for a loan switch to Crystal Palace, leaving some room for a new signing.

Asensio, to that end, is a viable target for Arsenal, although they are also facing stiff competition from Liverpool in pursuit of the Real Madrid forward. The 25-year-old is an option worth considering for the Reds as well, even though they have a formidable attacking unit.

However, Xherdan Shaqiri is almost certain to depart Anfield this summer while Divock Origi is also facing an uncertain future at the Merseyside club. Therefore, Liverpool can do with an attacking reinforcement this summer, with Mikkel Damsgaard one of their targets.

Apart from Arsenal and Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid are also showing an interest in Asensio, who is valued at around €40 million by Real Madrid. In addition, the likes of Everton, Leicester City and Leeds United have also been linked with him in recent times.

What now remains to be seen is if Arsenal and Liverpool are prepared to meet his €40 million valuation or if some other suitor pays up such a sum. Asensio’s preferred destination will also be an interesting eventuality, with Liverpool likely to hold an advantage due to the fact that they can offer him Champions League football. For now, the Spanish forward’s future at Real Madrid remains as uncertain as it has ever been.
