Transfer Rumour: Juan Bernat on Barcelona radar

Barcelona are reportedly considering a summer move for Juan Bernat, as they look to move Junior Firpo on after an underwhelming season.

According to a report by Spanish publication Sport, Juan Bernat has emerged on the radar of Barcelona for a move in the summer transfer window. The La Liga champions are weighing up selling Junior Firpo following a below par maiden campaign at Camp Nou.

Juan Bernat joined PSG in the summer of 2018 after struggling to become a regular in four years at Bayern Munich. At Parc des Princes, however, the 27-year-old Spaniard has been a regular, racking up 70 appearances over the last couple of years, with a healthy return of 5 goals and 10 assists.

But, his status as the first-choice left-back appears to be under threat, with Alex Telles reportedly set to join PSG this summer. In addition, talks over a new contract have hit a roadblock, with his current deal set to run out in just over 12 months. In such a scenario, a summer move away from the French capital could be in the offing. Barcelona are interested in Bernat.

Barcelona only bolstered the left-back slot last summer by signing Junior Firpo from Real Betis. However, the 23-year-old has not struggled to make an impression in his first campaign at Camp Nou. While he could get better with more opportunities, reports have claimed that Barcelona are ready to part ways with him already. Premier League has been mooted as a possible destination.

If Barcelona do manage to offload Firpo, they will then proceed to sign a replacement. PSG left-back Layvin Kurzawa, who is set to become a free agent this summer, has been heavily linked with the Catalan giants. However, competition for the Frenchman is immense.

In case they are unable to secure the services of Kurzawa, Barcelona will make a move for Bernat, who is open to returning to Spain if his status as a regular is affected at PSG. At 27, the Spaniard is at the peak of his powers and could be an able backup for Jordi Alba.

Everything depends on the future of Junior Firpo, though, and it remains to be seen if Barcelona are indeed looking to move the youngster on. If so, we could see one of Kurzawa or Bernat make their way to Camp Nou in the summer transfer window.
