PSG have reportedly set their sights on Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro as they look to bolster their midfield in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication Don Balon, PSG are intent on reinforcing their midfield options in the summer transfer window. The newly crowned French champions have turned their attention towards Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro, who could be a like-for-like replacement for Thiago Motta.

Casemiro has grown in stature tremendously at Real Madrid since returning from a loan spell with Porto in 2015. Over the last three seasons, the player has established himself as a mainstay in midfield for Los Blancos, playing the anchor man role in front of the backline, which has enabled Luka Modric and Toni Kroos to operate more freely.

During this period, Casemiro has also established himself as a key figure in the Brazil National Side, with many regarding him as one of the best holding midfielders in the world. But, with the tag also comes interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world, the latest coming from PSG.

Les Parisiens have enjoyed a remarkably successful campaign, reclaiming the Ligue 1 title in addition to the French Cup and the League Cup. But, their poor performances in the UEFA Champions League, including the loss to Real Madrid, has left a lot of room for improvement, with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi intent on bringing the big trophy to Parc des Princes.

Midfield is an area that he has identified as one that needs bolstering, especially with Thiago Motta calling time on his illustrious career. The Italian’s departure would leave a void at PSG, not just in terms of experience but also big game pedigree, making the Real Madrid superstar a viable target, who could be a like-for-like replacement for Motta.

PSG are also keen on snatching one of the most important players in Zinedine Zidane’s squad as Real Madrid try to swoop one of their away, in Neymar. Irrespective of their intentions, Casemiro is a player who would boost the incoming manager’s options and strengthen the French outfit considerably.

The interest from PSG has left Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos concerned as well. What is an even bigger cause for concern is the fact that Casemiro might be open to a move to Parc des Princes, with a new project being quite enticing.
