Manchester United will reportedly have to cough up £90 million to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid following his latest injury blow
According to a report in Spanish publication El Confidencial, Real Madrid are pondering the sale of Gareth Bale, with a spate of injuries sidelining him for extended periods. Manchester United, who have been long-time admirers of the Welshman’s talents, will have to shell out £90 million to land him.
Bale has long been regarded as one of the best players in the world, having been a key figure for Real Madrid for the last four years. The switch to the Bernabeu has been highly successful on the professional level for the Wales international, who has laid his hands on every trophy there is to win at the club level in Spain.
Bale has also formed a formidable partnership alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema – the BBC – and the trio have led Real Madrid to much success in the last few seasons. However, the player has often been laid low for long periods by a spate of injuries, especially in the last two seasons.

As a result, he has managed to feature in just 58 matches in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, nearly the number of games that Real Madrid played just last term. With Bale sustaining another injury at the start of the 2017-18 season, Los Blancos seem to be getting fed up of his repeated layoffs, and are considering selling him.
Manchester United have been targeting the player for a long time now, having attempted to sign him in 2013 as well, and the Red Devils could make another move for him either in January or next summer, with Jose Mourinho admittedly a fan of his talents as well.
The Portuguese manager has chosen to deploy Juan Mata on the right side of the Manchester United attack this season, but the addition of Bale will help him inject some pace on that flank to complement the marauding Antonio Valencia.
However, the Premier League heavyweights will have to shell out an astronomical £90 million to secure the services of Bale – an amount that could give Mourinho second thoughts about his pursuit of the player.
The emergence of Marco Asensio coupled with the resurgence of Isco means that Real Madrid are might not miss the Welshman if they sell him. It now remains to be seen if Manchester United are willing to cough up the figure to sign Bale.
