Prolific Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus is reportedly in line to receive a massive pay hike at Manchester City

According to a report by The Telegraph, Gabriel Jesus – who currently earns about £70,000 a week – is poised to receive a pay hike at Manchester City. It is understood that the club are eager to offer him a hike as an appreciation of his astounding first nine months with the club.

Gabriel Jesus joined Manchester City from Palmeiras last summer and has only gone from strength-to-strength at the club. It is remarkable when one considers how he has improved under Guardiola’s tutelage. Moreover, the fact that he was purchased for only £27 million seems shocking considering the astronomical price tags of this summer.

The report also goes to state that City are well aware of how Jesus’ value has increased exponentially in the market, thus making them all the more keen on offering him a hike to keep him satisfied. The 20-year-old is already one of the key players in Guardiola’s squad – and not to mention – one of the most exciting young talents.

Interestingly, Jesus’s arrival was subject to a lot of speculation regarding Sergio Aguero’s future. Aguero was expected to be pushed down the pecking order while some reports also suggested that he might seek an exit. In fact, even this summer, reports surfaced of how Aguero intended to leave City to avoid the competition.

However, the youngster has only helped raise Aguero’s game. The duo have surprisingly formed a lethal partnership up front. This was especially illustrated in City’s game against Liverpool where both players unselfishly passed the ball to each other depending on who was at a better position to score.

With that being said, Jesus can truly grow into a world-class player at Manchester City. As Guardiola has proven in the past at Barcelona, he loves working with fresh, young talent. Jesus has been a solid figure on the field and the manager will be more than happy to give his young starlet all the time he needs to sharpen his skills further.

If Jesus plays the part of the good student and absorbs as much of Guardiola’s considerable knowledge as possible, he will – much like Aguero – become a City legend in the long run. He has all the tools at his disposal required to be a success, both domestically and internationally, and is certainly moving in the right direction.
