Manchester City and Tottenham are reportedly £10 million apart in their valuation of Kyle Walker since City are willing to pay £40 million but Spurs want £50 million.
According to a report by The Daily Mail, Manchester City and Tottenham have reached an impasse as regards Kyle Walker’s price tag and are still some £10 million apart in their valuations. This might seem frustrating for City manager Pep Guardiola since he has been targeting Walker for quite some time now.
Walker joined Spurs from Sheffield United back in 2009, and has since developed into one of the best players at Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino.
The 27-year-old has featured in 33 Premier League matches for the Spurs last season, providing five assists in the process. He has been an important part of Tottenham’s defence last season as the club yet again fell short of winning the Premier League title.
Walker is easily one of the best right-backs in the Premier League right now, and he has improved quite a lot ever since Pochettino took charge. In fact, when you consider the quality of his performances, Tottenham are right in asking for £50 million.
The North London outfit actually have no reason to sell the defender at this point and can afford to demand £50 million for a player of his calibre.
Having said that, the England international did lose his place in Pochettino’s side towards the end of last season due to Kieran Trippier receiving more playing time, and possibly that is one reason why Walker is looking to exit since he needs regular playing time now, considering his age.
Walker can receive enough playing time with City since right-backs Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna were both released at the end of last season. However, Guardiola will need to boost his options in both full back positions, given that left-back Gael Clichy was also released.
It is quite evident that City are a cash-rich club and adhering to Tottenham’s demands should not be too difficult for them. Guardiola is in dire need of a right-back and signing Walker will prove to be beneficial since he is one of the best, and hence the Cityzens should try to just pay the extra cash needed to secure Walker’s services.
