Real Madrid are reportedly eyeing RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner as replacement for Alvaro Morata.

Italian publication Calciomercato have reported that Timo Werner is attracting attention from Real Madrid who have identified the RB Leipzig striker as the ideal replacement for Alvaro Morata, who is set to depart from the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.

Werner has progressed by leaps and bounds since making the move to RB Leipzig from Vfb Stuttgart last summer. Till then rated as one of the most exciting prospects in Germany, Werner has started to realise his undoubted potential at the Red Bull Arena, having been entrusted with the role of a striker by Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Werner has taken to his new role with aplomb as he has become one of the most prolific players in the Bundesliga, with a tally of 17 goals and 7 assists in just 28 outings showcasing just how fruitful a season this has been for the 21-year-old.

Having become an instant success playing in a more central role with Leipzig, Werner has also managed to earn a debut for the German national side. His hot scoring run has also seen him being linked with Liverpool, where Jurgen Klopp is believed to be a big admirer of the German’s talents.

And now, Werner has also attracted interest from Real Madrid, where Zinedine Zidane is in search of a striker. That is because Alvaro Morata is reported to have grown frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities that have been afforded to him this season and has decided to quit the club in the summer.

The likes of Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Spaniard, and it’s looking increasingly likely that Morata could join either of these clubs in the summer transfer window.

As a result, a position in the Real Madrid squad is likely to be up for grabs next season, and Zidane is eyeing suitable replacements for Morata. And that player could be Werner. The 21-year-old is one of the most exciting young strikers in the world, and he could eventually usurp Karim Benzema as the first-choice striker at the Bernabeu.

Werner, though, has previously insisted that he is not eager to move away from Leipzig anytime soon, and it remains to be seen if an offer from Real Madrid persuades him to leave the East German club.
