Mourinho in talks with PSG as Manchester United delay manager decision despite missing out on Champions League

Jose Mourinho could be on his way to France, with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain being tipped as the favourites to sign the Portuguese manager ahead of Premier League giants Manchester United.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss has been out of a job for over eight months now, but has confirmed that he will return to club management in the summer.

PSG have had a brilliant season domestically, completely dominating the Ligue 1 as well as winning the Coupe de la Ligue and reaching the Coupe de France final. However, their Champions League performance has left much to be desired, with Laurent Blanc’s side being knocked out in the quarter-finals by Manchester City.

The Frenchman’s failure to produce the desired results in the Champions League has forced PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s hand to look at Jose Mourinho as a possible managerial candidate, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Manchester United missing out on Mourinho?

The Red Devils have been tipped as the favourites to sign Jose Mourinho if they sack their current manager Louis van Gaal. However, Manchester United have not yet taken any decisions regarding the future of the Dutchman.

Consequently, the Portuguese manager has reportedly grown frustrated with Manchester United and wants a deal from the Red Devils in the coming week. If he does not get any offer from Manchester United within that time, he might decide to take up the PSG job.

This development is said to have put Manchester United vice-chairman Ed Woodward in a difficult position with regards to the club’s interest in Mourinho.

Another country for the Special One to conquer?

It would not be wrong to say that Mourinho has won it all in club football. Starting out his managerial career in Portugal, Mourinho won the domestic league, the UEFA Cup and the Champions League with FC Porto.

He then went on to win the domestic leagues of England, Italy and Spain with Chelsea, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid respectively, also managing to win the Champions League a second time during his time at Inter.

While the self-anointed Special One has said that he prefers to stay in England, a move to France only seems logical as he is yet to win any silverware in the country. To add to that, a vast transfer kitty at PSG could help him get closer to a third Champions League title.
