Argentine superstar Sergio Aguero has spearheaded Manchester City’s rise to the top of the Premier League in recent years. However, the striker has revealed that he plans to leave the club after his current contract runs out.

Aguero has been the most prolific striker for Manchester City in recent years, scoring 125 goals in 191 matches for the Citizens. The 27-year-old played an integral role in Manchester City’s rise to the their current position in England.

Although the Argentine is happy at the Etihad Stadium, he recently revealed that he plans to leave Manchester City when his contract expires. The striker reportedly wants to return to Argentina and play for boyhood club Independiente.

Aguero recently spoke to an Argentine Radio Station, and revealed that he intends to return to Independiente and eventually retire at the club  [via BBC Sport].

“Here (at City) they know what I want to do, they know I want to return to Argentina,” he said. “My family know that I am going to go there when my contract with Manchester City finishes in 2018.”

Although Aguero said 2018, he is actually contracted to City till 2019.

The hero that Manchester City needed

Sergio Aguero had a hand — or rather, a foot — in one of the greatest moments in Manchester City’s history. In an iconic moment for Manchester City and the Premier League in general, Kun scored in the 95th minute of the final match of the 2011-12 Premier League season to win the Citizens their first league title in 33 years.

The Argentine has won top honours in Europe, including two Premier League titles with Manchester City, and the Europa League with Atletico Madrid. The one medal that Aguero is still missing is the UEFA Champions League, but he still has 3 years to go at the Etihad Stadium. With Pep Guardiola arriving at Manchester City next season, Aguero could very well go on to complete his collection before leaving Europe.
