Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has denied he intentionally kicked Everton’s Seamus Coleman in the head, claiming that if he wanted to do that on purpose he would make the opponent “fall asleep”.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was a major talking point on Sunday night as Manchester United drew 1-1 at Everton. Former Sweden captain Ibrahimovic put the Red Devils ahead in the dying stages of the first half through a lobbed effort to continue his recent goalscoring run.

However, it was a controversial moment in the second half that saw Ibrahimovic come under fire from Evertonians present at Goodison Park. Involved in a 50-50 tussle with Everton right back Seamus Coleman, Ibrahimovic got into a tangle with the Irishman, before falling awkwardly on the diminutive defender followed by what seemed like a kick on Coleman’s head.

Ibrahimovic, though, had an interesting way to plead his innocence, saying [via manutd.com]: “Trust me, if I want to kick someone in the head, I know how to kick someone in the head and make him fall asleep. That is the only thing I have to say.”
