VfL Wolfsburg have completed the signing of Andre Schurrle according to the German Bundesliga website. The fee hasn’t been made public yet, but it is believed to be around A?24m. Schurrle has signed a four and a half year deal with Wolfsburg and will earn A?85,000-a-week.
Since signing from Bayer Leverkusen in 2013, Schurrle had made 65 appearances for Chelsea, but most of them had been off the bench as he was somewhat of an impact player for them. Despite not being a first team regular, Schurrle made the German World Cup squad and eventually won a medal as his side lifted the trophy in July.
This season, Schurrle has seen his game time reduce even more as he started in just five Premier League games and did not complete even a single one. Eden Hazard, Diego Costa, Oscar and Willian have been the usual attack line that Jose Mourinho has stuck to this season and as a result, a move was always on the cards for Schurrle as he was never really challenging the players for a first team spot.
A move to Wolfsburg will suit the 24-year old as he can make it into the first team ahead of Ivan Perisic and Vieirinha who are their two wide players at the moment. In addition, Wolfsburg are in a good position to challenge for the top by at bare minimum considering their season so far and maybe push on for the title after beating Bayern recently. At the same time, the club will be happy to sign him as well. Dieter Hecking’s side have been deadly on the counter this season, so the German’s addition will only increase that threat. Schurrle had scored five goals for Chelsea and had put in some good performances in the Cups where he was a regular starter compared to the League.

Chelsea signed Schurrle for a similar fee, so they won’t be too unhappy with his departure considering that they’ll be welcoming Juan Cuadrado to their club. The move to Wolfsburg was somewhat of a transfer saga as the interest was always solid, but Mourinho kept playing down the rumours.
