Van Gaal accepts criticism from Manchester United fans about the team’s style of play ahead of West Brom clash

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has acknowledged that the fans have the right to express their discontent at the team’s style of play, but has implored them to understand and analyse the game

 

Manchester United beat CSKA Moscow 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, but not before the fans made their discontent at the team’s style of play clear with their chants of ‘attack, attack, attack!’ with the score at 0-0. The substitution of Anthony Martial for Marouane Fellaini was also met with loud booing — not a common occurrence at Old Trafford.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Red Devils’ clash against West Bromwich Albion, manager Louis van Gaal admitted that the Old Trafford faithful had the right to express their opinion, but requested fans to understand and analyse the game.

The Dutchman insisted that criticism from fans was never unfair, stating that his team had to play for the fans. Manchester United are on a run of just 1 goal in their previous 4 matches, and the Old Trafford crowd made their disapproval clear in the 1-0 victory against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday.

Van Gaal is quoted by the Manchester United website . as saying: “Criticism from the fans is never unfair because it is a feeling of the fans and you cannot criticise the feeling of the fans. I think we have to play for the fans.

“But I have already said that the fans also have to understand the game and the resistance of our opponent. They have to analyse that, and that I have explained in [answer to] another question.a

Van Gaal pleased for ex-Manchester United trio Fletcher, Evans and Lindegaard

Darren Fletcher, Johnny Evans and goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard have all made the move away from Manchester United to the Hawthorns in the recent past, and the Red Devils’ manager said he had ‘great respect’ for the trio for choosing to play regular football.
