Shaw, Benteke, Sterling: The Top 10 Premier League Biggest Deal Ever

Liverpool FC signed Belgian international striker Christian Benteke from Aston Villa for A?32.5million, after off-loading forward Raheem Sterling to Manchester City for a record fee for an English player that could rise to as much as A?49 million.

We look at the 10 biggest transfers between rival English Premier League clubs.

Benteke became the fifth most expensive player to move between two English clubs. Here are the top 10.

1 – Fernando Torres (ESP) Liverpool to Chelsea, A?50million ($77.9m, 70.7m euros) January 2011

2 – Raheem Sterling (ENG) Liverpool to Manchester City, A?44million (could reach as much as A?49m) July 2015

.

3 – Juan Mata (ESP) Chelsea to Manchester United, A?37.1million, January 2014

4 – Andy Carroll (ENG) Newcastle to Liverpool, A?35million, January 2011

5 – Christian Benteke (BEL) Aston Villa to Liverpool, A?32.5million, July 2015

6 – Dimitar Berbatov (BUL) Tottenham to Manchester United, A?30.75million, September 2008

7= – Rio Ferdinand (ENG) Leeds to Manchester United, A?30million, July 2002

7= Luke Shaw (ENG) Southampton to Manchester United, A?30million, June 2014

9= – Romelu Lukaku (BEL) Chelsea to Everton, A?28million, July 2014

9= – Wilfried Bony (CIV) Swansea to Manchester City, A?28million, January 2015

Baring Rio Ferdinand, and to some extent Dimitar Berbatov, for every other player either the jury is out or they’ve failed to justify their transfer fee.

Goes to show why Jose Mourinho was lamenting the fact that top clubs do not buy English players anymore. John Stones could still make this list with recent reports claiming Chelsea FC are prepared to go as high as 32m GBP for the youngster.
