Ronaldo back to Old Trafford? Louis van Gaal admits that is what Manchester United want

"After all the goal, and all the trophies, who mentions the fee now?”

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal sets tongues wagging by revealing that the Red Devils are hopeful of bringing Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo left Old Trafford for a world record fee in 2009, but could make a sensational return to his former side if Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has his way. There have been reports in the media of late about the Portuguese being unsettled at the Bernab u, and the Dutchman’s latest comments will only add fuel to the fire.

The Red Devils lack world class attacking talent at the moment despite boasting players such as Juan Mata, Memphis Depay, Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial, and scoring goals has been a problem for Van Gaal’s side in the league thus far.

Van Gaal interested in bringing Ronaldo back to Old Trafford

The Dutchman confessed that Cristiano Ronaldo is a talent Manchester United would love to have in their ranks, confirming that he is among the players the club are looking at. Van Gaal is quoted by Eurosport as saying:

“He plays on the wings and he is fast and scores goals. I dona t think there is a trainer in the world that doesna t like him. Of course we would look.

.

“We are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo. But these players are mostly ungettable.

“With Ronaldo, let’s wait and hope. There is no trainer in the world that doesn’t like him.”

Ronaldo return unlikely

Although there is no doubt that Manchester United would be a potential destination if Cristiano Ronaldo did decide to leave Real Madrid, Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain are probably a more likely destination for the Portuguese.

United would have the financial muscle to compete with PSG, but already have an array of young attacking players that need time on the pitch to develop. The likes of Memphis Depay — who ostensibly has a future in Van Gaal’s team in the left attacking midfield position — would have to compete directly with Ronaldo for a place in the side.

Meanwhile, PSG are committed to elevating themselves to the level of Europe’s elite, and signing a player of the calibre and reputation of Ronaldo would be a way of fast-tracking that process. Also, there is every chance that he will stay at Real Madrid, particularly if he rediscovers his joy under either Rafa Ben tez, or as is more likely, the Spaniard’s successor.
