Report: Liverpool FC Edge Out Manchester United In The Race For Dutch Forward Memphis Depay

Liverpool has reportedly joined Manchester United in the race to sign PSV Eindhovena s 21-year-old striker Memphis Depay next summer. The Dutch forward has scored 20 goals for the Eredivisie Champions this season and seems to inch closer to Anfield though Manchester United are keen to sign the young player.

Memphis Depay was initially linked with Manchester United. Their Dutch manager Louis van Gaal was extremely keen to rope in the promising young forward. Recent reports suggest that The Red Devilsa fiercest rivals, Liverpool FC to are highly interested in the striker.

Liverpool have failed to cope up after their star strikerLuis Suarez left the club last summer for Spanish giants FC Barcelona. Although, they successfully roped in Mario Balotelli for a bargain deal from AC Milan, the Italian failed to fill in the big boots of the Uruguayan attacker. Liverpool are currently placed in the 5th position in the league table and also crashed out of the UEFA Champions League at an early stage. With their current run of form, it looks highly unlikely that Brendan Rodgersa side will make it among the top four in the league. The addition of Memphis Depay to this squad will certainly sharpen the attack force of the Premier League. With the likes of Raheem Sterling, Daniel Sturridge and Phillip Coutinho upfront, Depaya s joining will surely make things better for the Reds in the upcoming season. The 20-year-old forward has been praised by several experts for his talismanic performance for the Dutch champions.

A recent tweet by Mike Bernard further confirms that Liverpool are the frontrunners to rope in the forward in the summer.
