Manchester United Eyeing Ajax Keeper As De Gea Replacement: Report

Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Ajax keeper Cillessen to replace Real Madrid bound David de Gea.

Manchester United . are in the market for a goalkeeper as Real Madrid prepare to sign David de Gea. According to reports, Louis Van Gaal has identified fellow Dutchman Jasper Cillessen to replace the Spaniard. It is believed that the Premier League club asked keeper coach Frans Hoek to shortlist candidates to replace De Gea and the Ajax stopper emerged top of the list. Previously, Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars had declared that the Dutch club will not sell the 26-year old.

Cillesen has a good relationship with Van Gaal who handed the keeper his first international cap in 2013. The keeper went on to be Netherlandsa first choice between the sticks ahead of Tim Krul during the 2014 World Cup under Van Gaal. If the Manchester United coach is keen on signing the Dutch international, he should have little problems convincing him to make the move.

THT Verdict: Unlikely

Manchester United are not very keen on letting David de Gea go that easily. The club will try to force Real Madrid to pay around a 30 million for the Spaniarda s signature. After receiving that kind of money from the De Gea deal, the Red Devils will be keen on bringing in a seasoned goalkeeper who promises of a bright future. The likes of Tottenham Hotspura s Hugo Lloris or Atletico Madrida s Jan Oblak are easily affordable for a club of Manchester Uniteda s stature. Though Van Gaal is an admirer of Cillessen and entrusted him to be the first-choice in the World Cup over Tim Krool, the Dutch manager will certainly want to bring in a keeper who is young and has some experience at a top European club. 26-year old Cillessen clearly doesna t fit the bill and is unlikely to be the desired replacement for David de Gea.
