Liverpool Lining Up Huge Offer For Chelsea Star As Potential Sterling Replacement: Reports

Liverpool are lining up a summer offer for Chelsea star Oscar, as they wait on the future of Raheem Sterling who has repeatedly turned down extension offers from the club.

Metro report that the Reds are interested in signing Brazilian Oscar as they are currently sweating over the future of 20-year old Raheem Sterling. The Merseysiders are interested in the Chelsea man and Brendan Rodgers is reportedly a big fan of the player as well.

While these could only be rumors, especially since the English media outlet has not sourced it from anywhere and it doesn’t seem likely that there is any serious interest from the club, these reports will definitely be encouraging for the Reds fans who are not having the season they had hoped.

After coming close to winning the league last season, Liverpool endured a rocky start to the season and saw themselves ousted from the Champions League prematurely and were also looming in mid-table places till early December. A draw against Arsenal at Anfield in December started an unbeaten 13 game run in the league for the Reds and signs of a top-4 finish were back giving the Kop faithful a lot of hope. However, a loss to United has left them five points adrift of the fourth spot and they travel to Arsenal this weekend in a must-win tie. Chances of finishing in the top 4 don’t look as strong as they once did.

Add to this is the future of Raheem Sterling. A lot has been made of his situation at the club so far but it makes sense for the England international to want to focus on football as he has shelved contract talks till the summer. It has been understood that the complication in the talks are due to his representative splitting up from his owners. Regardless, Liverpool are understandably frustrated with the situation and worried at the prospect of losing one of the most talented young stars in world football.

Any chances of landing Oscar will certainly depend on where the Reds finish this season. If they don’t get Champions League football next season, it is unlikely the Brazilian will want to move to the club, even if a lot of money is offered. Moreover, it remains unlikely that Chelsea will want to do business with a rival club. Atletico Madrid are also keen on the player who despite not having the strongest of seasons, is viewed as a key player by Jose Mourinho. Juventus are also reportedly interested in the player as Daily Mail reported that scouts from the Italian club were present in Paris on Thursday night specifically to watch the Brazilian against France.

Oscar signed a contract extension up until 2019 last year and Chelsea would definitely want to make profit on the player they paid A?25m for.
