Liverpool FC defender Martin Skrtel is being pursued by Turkish giants Besiktas following refusal to sign new deal at the English giants.
Martin Skrtel had rejected a contract offer from Liverpool FC as reported by us earlier. The chief reason for the rejection being a clause that expects him to play certain number of games to be eligible for full payment.
Skrtel is quoted by Slovakian newspaper Aktualne explaining why he has rejected the offer:a Ita s unacceptable for me.”
“I think that such contracts offered to players who are much older than me or the player who had some health problems. And I dona t feel so old that I could sign such an agreement.a
Liverpool FC have refused to budge from the clause reportedly citing that the player has nothing to lose given that he has made over 50 appearances for the club over the last few campaigns and the club wants to ensure that they are financially protected from any potential dip in form or injury of Martin Skrtel.
With only a year left to his contract, Liverpool FC might be tempted to sell Skrtel or risk him to leave for free.
Skrtel joined the club from Russian outfit Zenit St. Petersburg in a 10 million Euro move in 2008 and since then has established himself as an important part of the squad after a difficult first few months.
Besiktas are in the transfer market looking for a central defender and Martin Skrtel with his experience in the Champions League and the Premier League fits the profile of the kind of player they are looking at.
Skrtel will not be too costly, either, plus his wage demands are also not extravagant. The only stumbling block would be the player’s desire to move to Turkey.
Liverpool FC will be hoping that Skrtel sings a new deal given that there problems in the defensive zone is well documented as Dejan Lovren has failed to make any sort of impact and French international Mahamadou Sakho injury record hampering his progress at the club.
