Chelsea FC Set Sights On A?20m West Brom Forward Saido Berahino For January Transfer Window

With Chelsea FC’s current struggles in front of goal, the Blues are expected to splash the cash in the January transfer window, and they have reportedly been linked with a move for West Bromwich Albion forward Saido Berahino for a sum of A?20 million.

The 22-year-old has been looking for a move away from manager Tony Pulis’ side for quite some time now, and Chelsea FC seem to be quite interested in the services of the striker, according to the Daily Telegraph.

“Berahino, the West Bromwich Albion forward, has emerged as one of the strikers on Chelseaa s shortlist for the New Year as the Premier League champions prepare to strengthen their squad,” said John Percy’s report on the Daily Telegraph.

Chelsea FC’s woes up front

There have been dark clouds hovering over Stamford Bridge since the start of the 2015/16 season, with the only silver lining being that manager Jose Mourinho does not seem to have lost the trust of his players (well, most of them at least).

Chelsea FC have had big problems up front, with Diego Costa managing to score just two goals from 10 Premier League appearances. Also, the fact that star Colombian striker Radamel Falcao (who is on loan from Monaco) has only managed to score so far this season, means that the Blues are having to look for other options.

“Falcaoa s loan deal from Monaco is set to be scrapped after a disappointing spell for the Colombia international and Mourinho will be backed with funds after an abysmal first half of the season,” wrote Percy in his report.

Berahino to be the most sensible move for Chelsea FC?

Although there are a host of top forwards from all around Europe, whose names have been linked to Chelsea FC, it seems that the signing of Berahino would be the most sensible for the West London club.

There is the risk though, of being embroiled in a tug-of-war with Tottenham Hotspur FC, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been linked to the West Brom striker this summer.

However the biggest advantage of signing Berahino is the fact that he is a top-notch striker, who has the ‘home grown’ tag attached to his name. This would afford Chelsea FC the chance to look for good foreign talents on the other sections of the pitch.
