Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho does not seem to be too concerned about the conduct of striker Diego Costa, who appeared to have thrown his training bib at the Portuguese after being left on the bench in the Blues’ goalless draw against cross-town rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The Spain International had only managed to score one goal in his last eight starts, which is something that seems to have irked Mourinho and the coaching staff. Incidentally, in the midweek’s Champions League win at Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Costa seemed to have had a heated exchange with his manager at half time.
Mourinho however, waived it off in his characteristic way, saying that a few “kisses and cuddles” was all it took to fix things between the two men.
All did not seem to be alright though, as the Portuguese left Costa on the bench which apparently angered the Spaniard and caused him to hurl his bib at Mourinho. However, the Chelsea FC manager does not seem to be making a big deal out of it.
“For me his behaviour is normal. A top player on the bench will not be happy,” Mourinho was quoted saying in . BBC. “If he wants to hurt me it would not be with a bib. I have a good relationship with him.”
Costa a ‘privileged’ man, says Mourinho
Although he waved off Costa’s behaviour, Mourinho seemed to hint-out at a subtle warning to the players, saying that Costa is a “privileged man.”
“I think Diego is very privileged. He is the last player to be on the bench. Everyone has been on the bench – the captain [John] Terry, [Branislav] Ivanovic, [Gary] Cahill, [Cesc] Fabregas, Pedro and player of the season [Eden] Hazard,” said Mourinho.
“Diego is privileged to have been kept in the team for all these matches and today we thought our best strategy was to play with this. I am happy with my decision and the players.,” he continued.
