. Manchester City hopes of signing Kevin De Bruyne has been dealt with a setback with Wolfsburg manager Dieter Hecking saying the player is set to stay for another year.
De Bruyne, 23, has been in sensational form for Wolfsburg following his a 20 million move from Chelsea FC and is being pursued by a host of European Clubs, most notably, Manchester City, who are looking to sign the Belgian to revamp their midfield following a disappointing season.
The 2013-14 Premier League champions could not mount a serious title challenge to stop the charge of eventual champions Chelsea FC, and believe the acquisition of De Bruyne, who has broken the Bundesliga record by clocking up an impressive 21 assists and in addition has scored 10 league goals to help Wolfsburg finish second behind only Bayern Munich, will help them regain the title.
“Kevin will stay”
Speaking to Sky Sports after the Belgium scored a beauty in Wolfsburg’s 1-1 draw at Ajax on Friday, manager Hecking said: “Kevin is a player the world wants. I think he will stay for a minimum one more year at Wolfsburg.”
De Bruyne, though, refused to comment on his manager’s words and was quoted by Sky Sports as saying: “Sorry I have been told not to talk.”
Move unlikely
De Bruyne has broken the league record by clocking up an impressive 21 assists and in addition has scored 10 league goals to help Wolfsburg finish second behind only Bayern Munich in the 2014-15 season.
He has also played more accurate through balls than any other player in the Bundesliga and at 111 chance created, was ahead of Eden Hazard of Chelsea FC as the second best across the top 5 Leagues in Europe.
The Belgian was also named a Bundesliga player of the year defeating the likes of Manuel Neuer and Arjen Robben to the title.
While the statistics and honours are impressive and Manchester City could do with his creativity in the side, Wolfsburg, who are funded by automobile giant Volkswagen, appear in no mood to sell the player and a move looks unlikely with the player himself having four years to go to his contract.
