Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger isn’t too happy with Jose Mourinho’s remarks last weekend and has revealed that managers need to show respect towards each other.
Mourinho has called Wenger a ‘voyeur’ and a ‘specialist in failure’ in the past as the Gunners have failed to win trophies on a consistent basis. After last weekend’s draw, Mourinho was accused of playing ‘boring’ football by the Arsenal fans to which the Portuguese responded in typical fashion and had said that waiting for more than 10 years without a League title is ‘boring’.
Mourinho remains unbeaten against Wenger and continues to have the bragging rights, but the Frenchman believes that managers need to show respect towards each other, something that Mourinho hasn’t done, “The biggest thing of managers is to respect each other and some people have to improve on that. Everybody lives with his own internal problems and I live with mine and that is enough.”
Arsenal have turned their season around after a poor first half of the season performance and look set to finish second and are favourites to retain the FA Cup. Despite a disappointing Champions League exit at the hands of his former club Monaco, Wenger believes that his side have definitely progressed this season, “We have to look at it in a realistic way. I feel we have made progress and so I look at it in a positive way because what you want in the season is your team to become better.
“We faced a big challenge because Chelsea didn’t drop their level and that’s why we didn’t catch them but overall we feel we have made progress.
“When you fight for the championship you win some games because you smell you can do it that you don’t win if you’re fourth or fifth.”
The Gunners face an away trip to Hull City who will be full of confidence after their narrow yet impressive win over Liverpool. Steve Bruce’s men will want to win and make sure that they all but seal their Premier League position for next season. However, that will not be easy as Arsenal are unbeaten in nine Premier League games and have won eight out of those games. A win or a draw will take Arsenal above Manchester City who occupy the second place by virtue of goal difference and have played a game more than Arsenal.
