Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs has revealed their interest in signing Chelsea FC striker Romelu Lukaku, but accepts they will face tough competition to sign him.
Romelu Lukakuai??i??s future at Stamford Bridge has come under increased speculation in this transfer window. The Belgium international, who is currently in Brazil with his national side, enjoyed another wonderful season on loan from Chelsea, this time with Everton as he amassed 15 goals and 6 assists in 29 starts. But despite managing to outperform every other striker the London club have in their squad, Lukaku faces an uncertain future at Chelsea.
Jose Mourinhoai??i??s priority this summer was to sign a new striker as lack of goals from his forwards proved costly in the title race last season. The Blues are believed to have secured the services of Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa, and they could yet add more names to their strike force in this window. With the imminent arrival of Costa, Lukaku is unlikely to again regular first team action next season, and the 21-year-old is desperate to gain so. The former Anderlecht striker has already revealed his desire to leave the club in order to gain regular playing time, and is keen to use the World Cup as his stage to attract interest from suitors.
German club Wolfsburg are one of the many European clubs who are currently monitoring his situation at Chelsea and sporting director Klaus Allofs has accepted the clubai??i??s interest in signing him.
“If the player is getting cheaper, maybe this affair is picking up pace. But even then we wonai??i??t be the only club chasing the playerai??i??s signature.
“Actually we are looking at top-class strikers and we do not have any pressure. We are patiently waiting for the right moment.
“There will be some movement in all of this after FIFA World Cup tournament.” ai??i?? Klaus Allofs said in an interview.
As stated by Allofs, Wolfsburg will face heavy competition from the likes of Juventus, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan. The reigning Spanish champions are keen to replace Costa with Lukaku, while Milan are eyeing him as a suitable replacement for Mario Balotelli, who is reportedly on his way out of San Siro.
Wolfsburg are in need of a goal scorer as well. Ivica Olic was their top-scorer last season with 14 goals, but the 34-year-old forward isnai??i??t getting younger. Lukaku could provide them with the necessary fire power to break into the top-four next season and with it, European football.
