FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez is in huge demand following yet another brilliant season with the Portugese side. Leading English Premier League clubs Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are chasing the signature of the Colombian striker to strengthen their attacking armoury.
Colombian hitman Jackson Martinez had a wonderful season in Liga Sagres netting 19 League goals in 29 appearances. His performances in Portugal and Europe had caught the attention of clubs like AS Roma, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Italian Serie A side AS Roma were believed to be in the hotseat for the strikers signature earlier this season. The Italian club couldn’t reach an agreement with FC Porto which opened the way for Jackson Martinez’ other suitors. At that point of time Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United were also interested in the signature of FC Porto’s goal machine.
Jackson Martinez is regarded as a modern day all round striker and is widely expected to leave FC Porto for greener pastures this summer. It is believed that the Colombian prefers a switch to the English Premier League which has put the aforementioned clubs in high alert. His player agent is currently in England to discuss the possibility of a move to Premier League.
Tottenham Hotspur had invested heavily in their attack last summer by bringing in Spanish forward Roberto Soldado and wing forwards Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli. All of them flopped in their first season and it derailed Tottenham’s ambitious campaign. The failure of former Valencia captain Roberto Soldado to find the target has been their biggest misery and Spurs are planning to cut their losses this summer.
Strengthening the Forward department is considered as a priority by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. Even though manager Tim Sherwood’s position is under threat, Spurs are planning for next season and Colombian forward Jackson Martinez has been identified as one of the targets to solve their goal scoring problems.
