Manchester United prepare A?60m bid for Chelsea target Edinson Cavani

Manchester United are reportedly preparing a record A?60m bid for PSG and Uruguay forward Edinson Cavani.

There is growing interest in the 30 year old forward as ex- suitors Juventus looking interested in finally securing the services of the player. Moyes is looking for a fee in the same region as what brought the Dutch player to Old Trafford- approximately A?24m.

Moyes would be offloading the duo in the summer, or so it seems, and has apparently lined up ex-Napoli forward Edinson Cavani as the replacement.

Cavani has proved, since his move from Napoli last season, that he can definitely prove himself anywhere. However it is said that the player is somewhat unsettled in the French capital, and is not happy with PSG’s monopoly and the standard of football in the French league.

Man Unitedai??i??s board are reportedly willing to issue a huge bid for the Uruguayan in an attempt to get the talismanic forward to Old Trafford and improve United’s chances next season. Cavani does not need to prove his credentials and it is guaranteed that after getting settled in the Premier League, he would become vital in United’s ambitions next season.

United face competition from a host of clubs for the player’s signature, especially Chelsea as Jose Mourinho is interested in getting the ex-Napoli player to the Premier League and has the finances to rope in the player. With latest links of PSG interested in Oscar, there is a chance of there being a cash plus player swap deal.

THT Verdict: Unlikely

These audacious reports are quite off mark. While Moyes might sell RVP, because of the reported frosty relationship the two share, and Javier Hernandez may as well be out of the club as soon as the window opens, it is highly unlikely that the Red Devils will be able to rope in the 27 year old. PSG would demand a huge amount for the player and with Chelsea and even City, the two moolah factories of Premier League interested, it is doubtful that United would be able to edge above their bid. The prospect of potentially no Champions League next season might also dampen Cavani’s personal wishes of joining the club. Local rivals Manchester City and league leaders Chelsea will both be able to provide the player with the elite competition.
