We are just few days away from the start of a new season in Europe. Clubs like Manchester United and FC Barcelona have gone through a complete makeover during this transfer window, and it will be interesting to see how these ai???new projectsai??? perform in the upcoming 2014/15 season.
No other game on planet earth enjoys more uncertainty than football. A club might enjoy unprecedented success in one season but fail to win anything in next season. Some of the European giants had a terrible last season and they are in the process of starting a new project this summer.
Clubs like Manchester United, FC Barcelona and AC Milan had a forgettable 2013/14 season as they failed to perform according to the expectations and this transfer window is the most important one for these clubs. There has been a change of guard at all these clubs and there is also a large amount of transfer activity taking place at these clubs as their management tries to get these European giants back to their glory days.
Here we look at the clubs where wholesome changes are taking place and the reasons which make their new projects more exciting.
FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona failed to win any major trophy under Gerardo Tata Martino last year. FC Barcelonaai??i??s performances of last year were so depressing that complete makeover of their squad was inevitable.
FC Barcelona finished third in La Liga while they were ousted by Atletico Madrid in the quarter finals of Champions League last season.
Tata Martino failed to make his mark at Camp Nou and the club management has replaced the Argentine with ex-player Luis Enrique. The Spaniard has a previous coaching experience with Barca B, AS Roma and Celta Vigo.
And apart from changing the coach, the club has made numerous changes in the playing staff as well. The likes of Victor Valdes, Jose Pinto, Carles Puyol, Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas will not be playing for FC Barcelona.
The Catalans are the highest spenders of this transfer window as the club has splashed huge cash on Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, Thomas Vermaelen, Jeremy Mathieu, Marc Andre Ter Stegen and Claudio Bravo.
While it is quite clear that club will struggle to achieve the success of Guardiola era, there is no doubt that this new project of FC Barcelona is certainly very exciting.
Manchester United
Manchester United appointed David Moyes as the successor of Sir Alex Fergusson last season and this change proved to be a disastrous one for the club.
David Moyes was so unimpressive at Manchester United that the club even failed to qualify for Europe. The club has replaced David Moyes with Louis van Gaal this summer and fans have high expectations from the Dutchman.
Manchester United have also made some interesting signings like Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw this summer while the likes of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand have said good bye to the club. Manchester United are likely to spend more money in the later stages of this transfer window as the new boss has openly said that he is looking for a new central defender and another midfielder.
Manchester United fans have very high expectations from the club in the new season and the success or failure to land more talented players in the coming days will play a crucial role in deciding the fate of the club.
AC Milan
AC Milan is the most successful club of Europe but they have struggled to perform according to their stature in past few seasons.
AC Milan made a disastrous start to the season last year and owner Sylvio Berlusconi sacked coach Messimilliano Allegri in December and replaced him with Carlos Seedorf. However, the Dutchman failed to perform according to the expectations and the club even failed to qualify for Europe this year.
Milan have appointed former striker Pippo Inzaghi as the new boss now and the expectations are high from the former number 9. There are many changes in the playing staff as well. AC Milan have sold Kaka, Robinho and Matri till date while the likes of Diego Lopez, Adil Ramy and Pablo Armero have joined the San Siro side.
Milan will not be playing in the Champions League this season and lack of financial backing means no big name arrival during this transfer window. However, Milan still has some exciting players like Mario Balotelli, Stefan El Sharaawi and Mattia Di Sciglio in their ranks and it is going to be interesting to see whether the club qualifies for Europe next season.
Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid enjoyed historic last season as they finished the duopoly of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in La Liga while they also finished as runners-up in the UEFA Champions League.
However, despite enjoying such tremendous success last season, there has been a mass exodus from this Atletico Madrid squad. The likes of Diego Costa, Adrian Lopez, David Villa and Philipe Luis have left the club for pastures green and the club has been forced to look for their replacements.
Atletico Madrid earned huge money from the sales of Diego Costa and Philipe Luis. The club has invested this money wisely in new signings like Mario Mandzukic, Antoine Griezman and Guilerme Siquira.
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Pablo Simeone already has a quality squad at his disposal and this new looking team is likely to cause all sorts of trouble to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona in the coming season as well.
