FC Barcelona drew with Real Sociedad in second leg of the Copa del Rey finals with Messi scoring a good goal to set up a date with Real Madrid at the finals.
Having a two goal lead, Barcelona entered the Anoeta knowing that a win would set up a a date with Real Madrid for a replay of the 2011 Copa del Rey finals. With Messi back in good form, Barcelona started with Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas in the middle to ensure a confortable win over Real Sociedad. Though Brazillian superstar Neymar was missing, Barcelona dominated the match thoroughly, enjoying possession and keeping the home team at bay.
Messiai??i??s moment of magic saw Barcelona comfortably in control of the match. Intercepting the ball near the half line, the Argentine dribbled the ball all the way into the box and placed the ball at the back of the net with a well taken shot.
While Xavi and Iniesta dictated the game, Messi, Pedro and Fabregas provided the necessary artillery to see the Catalans sail past Sociedad. Dani Alves shone all throughout the match, linking up well with Messi and almost doubled the lead.With Barcelona having scored half way through the first half, Real Sociedad needed to score four goals to turn the tie around. Antoine Griezmann was set up perfectly by Castro and the young midfielder did well the beat Pinto at the post. But with only a few minutes remaining on the clock, the goal was mere consolatory for a side that was thoroughly beaten by Martinoai??i??s Barcelona.
With this victory, Barcelona have reached their fourth Copa del Rey final in six years and have set up a tantalising final with arch rivals Real Madrid. Due to be played on the 19th of April, both teams will have plenty of time to concentrate on the La Liga and the Champions League before they shift their focus back on the finals.
Barcelona have won the Copa del Rey the highest number of times in Spain and will be looking to add a 27th title to their tally. The last time the big two met in the Copa del Rey finals was in 2011 when Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the extra time to bring the trophy to Santiago Bernabeu.
In a surprising move, Real Madrid are considering Camp Nou as one of the possible venues for the finals even though that would give the Catalans an undue home advantage. Though the venue is still under consideration, it will be interesting to follow the build-up to the finale.
