Lukaku’s agent has claimed that Chelsea don’t want to send him out on loan again
The 21-year-old forward has failed to grab a place in the Chelsea squad since joining them in 2011 from Anderlecht. He arrived with lot of expectations at Stamford Bridge and was expected to eventually replace club legend Didier Drogba. Despite proving himself on loan at West Brom and Everton in the previous two seasons, Lukaku faces an uncertain future at the Chelsea.
He had said, “You know Chelsea: every year they buy a new top strikerI remember coming into the dressing room last year and seeing Samuel Etoai??i??o and Demba Ba and going: Whoah! Whatai??i??s happening here? But no problem. Many clubs are interested in me. At this stage I have to look to myself. I have to play a good World Cup. Thatai??i??s very interesting for all the players looking for a transfer, and I must be one of them. Chelsea know my point of view.”
Lukaku has been subject of interest from a host of clubs. He himself claimed that a lot of clubs want his signature and that he was not daunted by the imminent arrival of Diego Costa at the club.
Reports suggested that Lukaku wants a move out of the club and won’t be keen on moving to another club on a loan basis. There were reports of Mourinho also wanting to make profit from the player’s sale as a lot of clubs were interested in signing the player.
Spanish newspaperAi??ASAi??reported that Chelsea, Atletico and Lukaku had already agreed principal terms over a loan for the striker with Diego Costa heading the opposite way. A deal was expected to be finalized this week.
However, Oscar Darmiani Jr, Lukaku’s agent, has said that the Belgian is considering a new contract at the club and would not be moving out of Stamford Bridge on another short-term deal. He said
“Chelsea do not want to loan him out,” Darmiani said. “He has two years left on his contract and we would normally look at extending it shortly.
“Did I see him after the match against Russia? Yeah, he was pretty quiet but he is a player who does not have anything to prove.
“Of course, the World Cup is the World Cup. I am sure he will bounce back in the next game.”
Despite not shining at the World Cup so far, Lukaku has shown his talent in two consecutive seasons in England. He is Chelsea’s best striker at the moment (not counting Diego Costa, who remains an unconfirmed one so far). Fernando Torres and Demba Ba are both not certain keeps for next season with Atletico interested in the former and Ba having stated his desire to play for PSG. Keeping Lukaku as a back-up for Costa seems like a good option.
The Belgian is young, and it is unsure if he would want to settle for the bench, and looking at it from the player’s perspective, another loan deal won’t do him harm.Ai??Tottenham, Everton, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund are all also interested in the player and hence Chelsea, and Lukaku himself, can benefit with a move away from the club permanently.
