Chelsea keeper Mark Schwarzer has laughed off criticism of Jose Mourinhoai??i??s tactics against LiverpoolAi??and insisted: ‘We went there to win’.

The Aussie keeper franklyAi??admitted Chelsea set out to frustrate Liverpool – and did not want a repeat of the open game which saw the Reds beat Manchester City earlier this month.
But Schwarzer told Talksport there is more than one way to win a football match.
“It (the criticism) is quite amusing,” he said. “The bottom line is that there was a tactic we employed and it worked to a tee.
“We played within the rules, we played how we thought we could get a result – tried to frustrate Liverpool – and it worked. Football is a strange game sometimes.
“There are all sorts of tactics you can use. A couple of weekends ago there was a very open, free-flowing game between Liverpool and Man City and everyone loved it because of the amount of goals that were scored.
“But the bottom line is that we wanted to go there and win the game. We didn’t want to go there and sit back and try and get a result or park two buses in front of the goals like has been suggested.
“We wanted to be strong defensively but also wanted to attack them and score goals on the counter or whenever the opportunities came along. And that worked perfectly for us. Play within the rules and that is what we tried to do.”
Schwarzer was making only his second Premier League appearance after the injury to Petr Cech.
“I feel sorry for Peter – he is a great goalkeeper,” said the former Fulham keeper.
“But you have got to come in and take your opportunity. I hope I can come in and do the best I can.”
The close friendship between Rodgers and Mourinho, who hired the Liverpool manager as Chelsea youth-team coach a decade ago, came under strain after the visitors recorded a 2-0 win at Anfield due to goals from Demba Ba and Willian plus a resolute defensive display. The result loosened Liverpool’s grasp on a first league championship since 1990, with Manchester City winning 2-0 at Crystal Palace.
Mourinho and Rodgers did not shake hands after the final whistle, the Chelsea manager having disappeared down the tunnel after the chest-beating celebrations that followed Willian’s stoppage-time goal.
Chelsea are now two points behind leaders Liverpool with two games remaining.
