Barcelona trail Real Madrid by four points after match week 15 but the Blaugrana boss believes his side have time to catch the league leaders.
Luis Enrique is confident that Barcelona still have plenty of time to catch La Liga leaders Real Madrid after being held to a 0-0 draw at Getafe on Saturday afternoon. Barcelona dominated possession for long periods at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, while Lionel Messi hit the crossbar with a brilliant free-kick but ultimately had to settle for a single point. Despite intense late pressure, Barca were unable to find a winner, meaning they end the weekend four points adrift of league leaders Madrid, who defeated Almeria on Friday night.
Enrique, though, is calling for calm, arguing that Barca had simply felt the effects of their midweek win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
“It’s different when the team is fresh,” he told reporters after the draw with Getafe. “Also, we did not take advantage of the chances we had.
“We were much better than the opponent. We had chances despite the difficulties that Getafe caused us. Except for a few exceptions, we had everything under control. Plus, there are still many games left in La Liga. We were four points up and now we are four points down.”
“I need to watch the game again but I saw plenty of attacks, almost all on the left side, and we had many chances.”
“We had a lot of chances. If any of them had materialized then we would be talking about a good game. We attacked their goal an infinite number of times in the second half and created plenty of chances to score.”
“I am not unhappy with my players. They fought from the very start. We knew it would be difficult. I donai??i??t think we gave away a single minute. We tried to play the best game we possibly could.”
“Thereai??i??s a long way to go yet” said Enrique.”We had a four-point lead before and now itai??i??s the other way round. We have to accept things and try to improve.”
Enrique also refused to use Neymar’s injury-enforced absence as an excuse for his side’s lack of goals tonight.
“I won’t talk about Neymar,” he added.”I don’t talk about players who are not here.”
Barcelona now turn their attentions to the Copa del Rey and Tuesday night’s meeting with Huesca before resuming their Liga title bid at home to Cordoba on Saturday.
