Atletico Madrid want to sign Napoli winger Jose Callejon, but would have to fight off interest from Chelsea
Atletico Madrid are chasing former Real player Jose Callejon, as they prepare for imminent losses during this transfer window. The La Liga champions are going to be considerably diminished as a host of players including star striker are linked with a move away from the Spanish side. Striker David Villa has already departed the club and Diego Costa’s departure announcement is expected any minute as the former Celta man has apparently already had a medical with the Stamford Bridge side.
Diego Simeone’s side have attained the services of Argentinian prodigy Andres Correa from San Lorenzo, although this signing is more for the future than to simply remedy the coming void made by the immediate and imminent departures.
Callejon, who was purchased by Rafa Benitez last summer, enjoyed a terrific season in Serie A after he got 20 goals and eight assists for Napoli and helped the club finish third in the league and win the Coppa Italia.

Callejon was always identified as a talented player at Real, but was consistently a fringe player. He has found his calling at Napoli as regular game time has proved to be exactly what he needed. He said, “I had to look for an alternative to play more and the proposal of NapoliAi??was perfect. At first, especially [with]Ai??the language, it was difficult, but I am very satisfied with the decision that I [made]. I feel very identified with the club, myAi??teammates and the fans.” His good form almost got him a call-up to the Spain squad for Brazil and del Bosque admitted feeling sad about excluding the player.
Callejon is eyed as a player who could improve their attacking options. Persistent reports linking Arda Turan are there in the picture, as the winger is wanted by Manchester United and Barcelona, and Diego Simeone has identified the former Real man as the viable replacement in the squad. Callejon would add tremendous quality in the depth if Turan decides on staying at the club.
Atletico have so far enjoyed a busy transfer window and have also signed goalkeeper Miguel A?ngel MoyAi?? and defenderAi??Guilherme Siqueira. Siqueira’s addition has been vital as defenders Filipe Luis and Miranda have both also been linked with moves away from the club.
