Roma were humiliated 7-1 on their home ground by Bayern Munich last night.
In front of a sold out Olimpico, Rudi Garciaai??i??s men were battered to pieces as Bayern Munich arguably produced their best display this season so far. The Bavarians romped to a 5 goal lead before half-time. Gervinho hit the post, forced a world-class save from Manuel Neuer and got a consolation but substitutes Franck Ribery and Xherdan Shaqiri completed the rout late in the second half.
Pep Guardiola was modest after the win and felt the score-line was a bit flattering. “It seems a bit exaggerated! We found an early goal with Arjen that calmed us, then we pressed Roma to keep hold of the ball. We do it because we want the ball, not to irritate our opponents.”
“We like to hold the ball and then probe to find where we can break through. We will see in two weeks in Munich that there is not such a huge gap between the teams.In 20 minutes Roma had three or four clear scoring opportunities and therefore we have to improve, so weai??i??ll talk things over.”

Thomas Muller who scored from the spot in the first half was delighted to secure the three points. “Roma played exactly the way we expected them to and did not change their usual style of football,ai??? said Muller.They only made modifications in the second half and because of that it was a little more difficult for us to find spaces.”

Rudi Garcia accepted responsibility for the result last night and felt it was the outcome of a tactical collapse rather than individual mistakes.
“It was a tactical collapse more than a psychological one. We werenai??i??t aggressive enough and allowed Bayern to play,ai??? Garcia told Sky Sport Italia.
“I am the first one who made the mistake, it is not the fault of the players, the first half approach was my fault entirely. It was the wrong strategy, we shouldai??i??ve been more closed up and try to hit them on the counter-attack.”
“Once we were a goal down after 10 minutes, we ran forward and that played into Bayernai??i??s hands. We were too eager to get it back on track and left spaces that Bayern took advantage of. We shouldai??i??ve kept our heads and waited for the right chance.”
“We had a good reaction after the break, their goalkeeper prevented us scoring a couple more, but I am disappointed by the two goals we conceded late on. We wanted to prove there is pride in this squad and we did that in the second half.”
