Manchester United make a bid for Cesc Fabregas
The 26-year-oldai??i??s future at Barcelona has been up for speculations all through-out this summer. He was initially linked with a move back to the Premier League with both Manchester United and Arsenal monitoring his situation at Camp Nou. But United shifted their focus towards another Spanish midfielder – Thiago Alcantara – despite been being close to landing Thiago, Manchester United eventually lost out to Bayern Munich.
But a midfielder remains David Moyesai??i?? priority this summer. The Manchester United manager has insisted that the club is working towards its first big signing in this transfer window, and although he refused to take the name of any possible target, Moyes insisted that the midfield needs strengthening.
“Isn’t it great that the club says, ‘There’s no budget here, you go get who you want to get, just go and do it’.
“We are looking at the best players. I do think it’s important that we show people we are carrying on the traditions and trying to take the club forward.
“I will not name anybody, but certainly we are always looking at the best players. I think we are trying to strengthen in a couple of areas. We are short in midfield.
“We are also a club which tends to invest in the youth side, so you can expect us to go for players in that age group.

Recent reports suggest that Manchester United have submitted an official bid of A?25mAi??for Cesc Fabregas. But the reigning Premier League champions will find it hard to prize away the former Arsenal midfielder from the Catalan giants ai??i?? any transfer related to him will be very complicated due to the various clauses he has in his contract. Arsenal inserted the right to first refusal clause while selling him to Barcelona, which means that If the Spanish club agrees to sell Fabregas, then Arsenal will have the first option to buy him, irrespective of Unitedai??i??s interest. Secondly, the Gunners are also entitled to get 50% of the transfer fee Barcelona will earn from Fabregasai??i?? transfer to any other club ai??i?? which means Barcelona will have to sell him at a much higher price in order make any profit.
The fact that Barcelona have already lost Thiago, means they might want to hold onto Fabregas this season. Moreover, the midfielder has already stated his desire to prolong his stay at his childhood club as he looks to grab a permanent role in the starting eleven. So the possibility of United succeeding with this bid, looks highly unlikely at the moment.
PSG target Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic
The 29-year-old has been a key figure in the Chelsea defence since joining them back in 2008 from Lokomotiv Moscow. Last season, he made at total of 59 appearances for Chelsea in all competition and even managed to score eight goals. His main strength has always been his versatility. Ivanovic has played both as a right-back and as a center-back, and can contribute in attack as well as being solid defensively.
Reports from France suggest that new PSG manager Laurent Blanc has set his sight on the Serbian international this summer. He is seen as a direct replacement for right back Gregory Van der Wiel, who is set to join Serie A side Inter. PSG are believed to be lining up an offer of A?8million (plus add-ons) for Ivanovic and are willing to offer a bumper four-year contract to the defender. It will be interesting to see if new manager Jose Mourinho sees Ivanovic as an important part of his future plans, else he is likely to be sold, to make way for new arrivals.
