Manchester United are interested in signing Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala, while Manchester City are close to completing their move for Atletico Madrid center-back Martin Demichelis.

Mangala joined the Portuguese club back in 2011 from Standard Liege and last season he established himself in the first team under Vitor Pereira, the former Porto manager. His impressive performances in the title winning campaign of Porto also earned him his debut for the French national side.
Mangala was earlier linked with cash rich French clubs PSG and Monaco, although the duoai??i??s interest in him seemed to have cooled off. Recently he has been monitored by Barcelona and Chelsea, and Manchester United have seemingly joined the race for his signature. Unitedai??i??s scouts watched over him during Portoai??i??s 3-0 victory over Maritimo, where the defender produced another assured performance at the back.
United have been earlier linked with Ezequiel Garay, but the English club had to back track on their interest due to Benficaai??i??s high demands. David Moyes is reportedly keen to strengthen his defence before the transfer window closes as there are still concerns about the fitness of Rio Ferdinand and Vidic.
Barcelona are also keen on the French youngster as they continue their search for a center-back after the departure of Abidal. Catalan club will also need a long-term replacement for Puyol and have seemingly conceded defeat in their pursuit of Brazilian international Thiago Silva and Chelsea defender David Luiz.

Manuel Pellegrini, who was the manager of Malaga during Demichelisai??i?? stint at the club, sees him as the perfect addition to the squad which is short in numbers at the back. Both Vincent Kompany and Nastasic are out injured and Pellegrini was forced to field Garcia alongside Lescott in the 3-2 away defeat at the hands of Cardiff City. Demichelis is a good short term solution to their injury woes at the back.
It is believed that although Atletico Madrid have agreed upon the fee, Manchester City are yet to discuss personal terms with the Argentine international. City could look to complete this move ahead of their match against Hull City on Saturday.
